Information management is the process of gathering, storing and disseminating data (audio and video recordings, linguistic annotations). It covers all physical and electronic processes by which an organisation collects and uses information from different sources. To create an information management archive, information managers need three things: data, tools, and advice. These are the first three pillars on which information management rely.
The availability of information and how an organisation uses it may significantly impact its success. An information management system delivers data that may be useful in identifying and improving ineffective sections of organisations. This helps them to make informed decisions and increase productivity.
The Open Language Archive
The Open Language Archives Community (OLAC) is a is an international partnership of institutions and individuals to create a federated language archives library of language resources for linguistic research, developing consensus on best current practice for the digital archiving of language resources. OLAC was founded in 2000, and is hosted at the Linguistic Data Consortium webserver at the University of Pennsylvania.
Information Management System Advantages
Information Management allows a business to use recognise areas for improvement, fine tuning, and quality control. It can provide an overview of the entire operation, feedback on performance, and comparison of results to plans2. It can ensure accuracy, flexibility, and appropriateness of data analysis and presentation3. It can support business needs, compliance, risk management, and informed decisions4. It can help gain competitive advantage by reducing costs, raising barriers, creating or enhancing products or services, and establishing alliances5.
An effective information management system enables team members to use their time and resources better while making decisions and performing their responsibilities. The following are steps you can follow to plan a system:
Zipping & Unzipping Files Using Python
In many cases, you’ll encounter zipped files (or need to zip files yourself). Because zip files are so common, being able to work with them programmatically is an important skill.
Adding files to an exciting zip file is made easy using the Zipfile class. When you instantiate a Zipfile object, you can open it in append mode using the
'a' mode. From there, the process works in the same way as though you were adding files to a newly created file.
To unzip a zip file using Python, you can use the
.open() method and use the
'r' option to read the file. This simply opens the file in read mode. However, how can we see what’s inside it?
